This is the final image of Sentry for my solo show #Aurora at Thinkspace Gallery LA. I added about 3 coats of GAC 100 by Golden before I did anything. I then added layers of oil glazing, starting with the thin warm, shadows and working up into the lights. The texture in the background is a mixture of crushed soft pastels and oil paint. The warm areas left over are from the pencil/coloured pencil underneath. I still had to fix mistakes I made right up to the end… The goal with the oils is to let the rendered form underneath show through to give it depth. The areas left white in the lights of the flesh, will have the most brightness. I think it’s because the light passes easily through thin layers of pigment, reflects off the white surface and bounces back through, enhancing colours. It’s just fine tuning the colour shifts and experimenting a lot. I had no idea I would add this green light until the end. So that’s my process for this one…I hope you found it interesting. If you’d like to see more, I have progress shots from the other pieces in the show I can go through. Just let me know! Cheers and much love, Rod #rodluff #progress #sentry #aurora #painting #drawing #thinkspace #gallery
